How to pair hearing aids with your iPhone

If you have hearing loss, you may likely already understand the benefits of wearing hearing aids. They can make a significant difference to your hearing, enabling you to take an active part in conversations in any type of environment. But your hearing aids can now offer more than just improved hearing. When you pair hearing aids to an iPhone, you can take advantage of the latest features such as audio streaming, as well as being able to control your hearing aids from your phone.

To take advantage of these features, here’s how to pair hearing aids to an iPhone:

• Take your hearing aids out of your ears and open the battery compartment door
• On your iPhone, go to the Settings menu
• Choose Bluetooth and check it’s on
• Close the battery door so your iPhone can detect your hearing aids
• On your iPhone, go back to the Settings menu and choose General and Accessibility
• You should see MFI Hearing Devices under Accessibility
• The model number and name of your hearing aid should be displayed – tap this
• There should be a tick next to your hearing aids which show that they’ve connected with your iPhone
• Select Pair to complete the connection
• If you own two hearing aids, then you’ll get a pairing request for each one

Technology may be incredibly advanced, but it can still go wrong from time to time. If you experience any problems when you try to pair hearing aids to iPhone, these steps below may help:

• Make sure your hearing aids and phone are supported by checking the compatibility list from your hearing aid manufacturer
• Check that Bluetooth is switched on
• Make sure that the hearing aids are within range of your iPhone
• Check the hearing aid batteries are working

If you still experience problems with pairing your hearing aids to iPhone, try:

• Turn your iPhone’s Airplane Mode on and off
• Turning off your Wi-Fi connections for a short while
• Allow your iPhone to ‘forget’ your hearing aids by going to Settings, select Accessibility and then Hearing Devices or Settings and then tap Bluetooth. You can then start the process of pairing again
• Turn your iPhone off and on again
